
Types of Learning Formats
Academic Connections offers a range of collaborative learning programs designed to connect students and/or educators across international borders through meaningful online engagement.
The programs emphasize intercultural understanding, academic skill-building, and equitable access to global learning using English-medium communication. Each format supports connection, reflection, and shared inquiry while adapting to diverse time zones, learning contexts, and participant interests.
At present, the association offers the following established collaborative learning formats:

School Break 5-Week Projects for Students
​
These short-term collaborative projects connect students across countries during academic breaks through guided inquiry, intercultural dialogue, and team-based learning. Participants engage in themed projects using English-medium communication while developing global awareness, academic skills, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Quarterly Book Reading Groups for Educators and Students
​
These facilitated reading groups bring educators and students together around shared texts focused on global issues, education, and intercultural learning. Sessions include reflective discussion and collaborative activities designed to deepen critical thinking and intercultural understanding.

Author / Practitioner Q & A Salons for Educators
​
These interactive salons provide educators with opportunities to engage directly with authors, researchers, and practitioners working in global education and language learning. Participants explore emerging ideas, ask questions, and exchange practices in an informal, collegial setting.

Webinars for Educators

Academic Connections offers professional learning webinars that support COIL design, intercultural facilitation, and inclusive teaching practices. Sessions provide practical strategies, examples from global classrooms, and opportunities for peer exchange.

​
Student-focused webinars introduce global topics, intercultural communication skills, and collaborative learning strategies. These sessions encourage reflection, dialogue, and active participation while supporting students’ academic confidence in international learning spaces.
